ARCHITECTURE CULTURE & HISTORY II

Architecture Culture & History 2 is a continuation of the investigation of architecture history development that began in Architecture Culture & History 1. Lectures will provide detailed accounts of the principal developments in the Western world from the revolutionary period to the present day. Buildings will be explored with reference to major contemporary examples and the work and philosophy of significant exponents. Students will undertake a major research of a significant building, complete with investigation of the major influences that led to its development and in turn its influence in other architectural aspects.

PROJECT 1 : TIMELINE & DIAGRAM ANALYSIS

This project requires us as students to undertake a research analysis process on Modern Malaysian architecture practices throughout history through literature review and documentation and present an appropriate chronology and diagram analysis account of the Malaysian architecture based on the understanding gained through the analysis procedure. It also familiarizes students to the activities of culmination and production of a research analysis through assemblage, chronologically, diagramming exercise, indices and evaluation of information; composing and organization of study; assembly of illustration and text; design layout composition; poster and presentation.

Task: In a group of 4 to 5, we were required to prepare an A3 sized illustrative chronology poster of Modern Malaysian Architecture that interprets the Modern Malaysian Architectural language and architecture influences to the architectural development of Malaysia in particular.

PROJECT 2 : REPORT

This project requires students to increase understanding on the principle, ideas and contributing factors of Modern Architecture in the Klang Valley, enabling them to analyze and identify specific architectural features of Modern Architecture while also documenting architectural heritage in the form of writing, descriptive diagrams and photography in relation to creating a web book as a means to publish academic materials.

Task: In a group of 4 to 5, we were required to conduct a research and architectural analysis on a selected building, then documenting all information in an A4-sized report. Each group will select one building from the given list. Our group chose Menara Tabung Haji located in Kuala Lumpur.
